Genesee County Literacy Coalition…working to promote literacy in our neighborhoods.
According to the 1992 Survey of Adult Literacy, 35 percent of Flint residents and 21 percent of Genesee County residents read at or below a level 1. That means they have trouble with simple everyday reading, writing and math activities like reading signs and counting change.
The Genesee County Literacy Coalition is a non-profit organization of groups and individuals dedicated to improving literacy levels in Flint and Genesee County. We were established in 1979 to provide cost effective tutor training and collaborative literacy services throughout the county.
Our board meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 6:30pm at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 5151 Lennon Road, Flint, MI 48507. Meetings are open to the public.
If you know someone who needs help, if you want to be a tutor, or if you wish to contribute, please contact us.
